Germany's Bavarian State Housing Firm Misses Target by 83%

Germany's Bavarian State Housing Firm Misses Target by 83%

Velburg – September 11, 2026 -- Germany's push for a new federal housing corporation to fix the country's housing shortage is drawing scrutiny after Bavaria's state-run BayernHeim delivered only a fraction of its promised units, with industry experts arguing the real barrier is construction economics, not a lack of state builders.

BayernHeim delivers 1,700 units versus a 10,000-unit target set in 2018

Bavaria's state government pledged in 2018 to create 10,000 new apartments through BayernHeim by 2025. According to a response to an inquiry from state parliament member Jürgen Mistol, the company will complete only around 1,700 units by the end of 2025 -- nearly half of which stem from acquiring projects already planned by private developers. The portfolio is projected to grow to roughly 3,700 units by end-2026, still far short of the original goal.

Housing Cooperatives Turn Idle Rooftops Into Tenant Electricity Revenue

Housing Cooperatives Turn Idle Rooftops Into Tenant Electricity Revenue

Rielasingen-Worblingen – September 11, 2026 -- Rising electricity prices are pushing German housing cooperatives to convert unused rooftop space into on-site solar power supply for members, a shift that can simultaneously cut resident energy costs and strengthen property economics.

Cooperatives hold both the roof and the resident relationship

Housing cooperatives occupy a unique position in the solar market: they own the building's roof and represent the interests of the people living beneath it. That dual role lets them install photovoltaic systems and sell the power directly to residents through tenant-electricity models, without residents needing to make their own capital investment.

Construction Site Theft Costs German Firms Millions in Delays

Construction Site Theft Costs German Firms Millions in Delays

Föhren – September 11, 2026 -- Machinery, tools, cabling and building materials worth millions of euros disappear from German construction sites every year, with unsecured storage areas, containers and sites staffed by rotating crews among the most frequent targets.

Stolen equipment triggers costs that exceed the theft itself

"A stolen excavator costs money, but a halted construction project often costs many times more. That is exactly what many companies underestimate," said Carsten Simons, managing director of LivEye GmbH. Missing machinery halts planned work, while stolen cabling or components force crews to redo completed tasks, pushing back subsequent trades and delivery deadlines.

Intuitive Wins CE Mark for da Vinci 5 Force Feedback in Europe

Freiburg – – September 11, 2026 -- Intuitive Surgical has secured CE marking for Force Feedback instruments on its da Vinci 5 surgical system, clearing the technology for use across the European market alongside more than 100 additional system updates.

Force Feedback lets surgeons feel tissue resistance in real time

The instruments capture pressure, traction and lateral forces roughly 1,000 times per second, relaying them directly through the hand controllers on the da Vinci 5 console. A real-time force gauge, resembling a speedometer, displays the intensity of force applied to tissue during a procedure. Post-operatively, surgeons can review force data through Case Insights in the MyIntuitive+ platform to refine technique and reduce variability between cases.
