TIER IV Launches Wide-Angle Cameras for Level 4 Autonomy

Tokyo – September 30, 2026 -- TIER IV, the developer behind the open-source Autoware platform, will begin sales on September 30, 2026, of two new automotive-grade cameras built for commercial-scale Level 4 autonomous driving. The C1-120MP and C2-120MP feature a 120-degree wide-angle lens designed to close peripheral blind spots around autonomous vehicles.

New cameras expand MP series first launched in May 2026

The MP camera series combines proprietary image optimization with flexible camera control and is aimed at scalable autonomous deployment across public transit, logistics, construction, and agricultural operations. The 120-degree field-of-view models are engineered specifically for close-range peripheral sensing, complementing narrow-angle cameras used for long-range detection.

TIER IV Opens Autoware Simulator to Students at Tokyo's Miraikan

Tokyo – September 24, 2026 -- TIER IV, the developer behind the open-source Autoware autonomous driving platform, will co-host a hands-on AI and autonomous driving education event for junior and senior high school students on September 26 at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Tokyo.

Three corporate partners jointly built the training tools deployed at the event

TIER IV is running the session in collaboration with Tamiya, Macnica and zero to one, a Kawaijuku Group company. Students will train an AI robot jointly developed by Tamiya and Macnica, testing how the system recognizes surroundings and makes decisions from sensor input.

TIER IV Open-Sources Autonomous Kart Design for 240-Team Challenge

Tokyo – September 24, 2026 -- TIER IV, the developer of the open-source Autoware autonomous driving platform, has released a reference design for autonomous racing kart systems on a public GitHub repository, providing a common technical foundation used by 240 teams and roughly 600 participants in Japan's Autonomous Driving AI Challenge.

The Autonomous Driving AI Challenge, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE), ran from July to September 2026, with qualifying and final rounds using TIER IV's reference design as the baseline development platform. Final rounds took place September 19-20, 2026, combining simulation-based and real-world vehicle challenges with racing karts.
