Pittsburgh – September 20, 2026 -- Energy Corps has named four new grantees to expand access to affordable, modern energy across East and West Africa and Tribal Nations in the United States, targeting sectors from electric cooking to AI-driven energy governance.

DanChurchAid initiative moves 1,000 refugee households to electric cooking in Kenya

DanChurchAid, partnering with Mwangaza Light and Renewvia Energy, will help more than 1,000 households -- roughly 7,500 people -- in the Kakuma and Kalobeyei settlements transition from firewood and charcoal to induction cookers. The project uses pay-as-you-go financing and a discounted daytime electricity tariff to make the switch affordable.

Portland, Ore. – September 15, 2026 -- Material wealth was cited in fewer than 10 percent of conversations about prosperity in five of six countries surveyed, according to a new report from Prosper Global, formerly Mercy Corps.

Research spans 1,100 people across six conflict- and climate-affected nations

The report, titled "What It Means to Prosper," draws on 396 individual and group conversations with more than 1,100 people in Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Indonesia, Kenya, Syria, and Ukraine. Rather than impose a definition, researchers asked participants to describe prosperity and its barriers in their own words.
