Bright Path Wins AZBio Award for U.S. Shortage-Drug Manufacturing

Mesa, Ariz. – October 07, 2026 -- Bright Path, a U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturer, has been named a 2026 AZBio Fast Lane Award honoree by the Arizona Bioindustry Association, recognizing milestones reached over the past 18 months including a first-of-its-kind FDA manufacturing designation and committed commercial production of hospital medicines facing chronic shortages. The company was honored at the 23rd Annual AZBio Awards at the Phoenix Convention Center during Arizona Bioscience Week.

FDA grants first-ever Advanced Manufacturing Technology designation for a small-molecule drug process

In August, the FDA granted Bright Path an Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) designation, the first such designation issued for a small-molecule drug manufacturing technology. The designation covers the company's end-to-end U.S. production of carboplatin, a commonly used chemotherapy drug, and lidocaine, a local anesthetic widely used in hospitals and emergency care. Both medicines currently sit on the FDA drug shortage list.

Entire initial production run is already committed to healthcare customers across 48 states

Bright Path has moved from federal research programs to committed commercial production over the past 18 months, meeting every contract milestone across three successive awards under the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's EQUIP-A-Pharma program. The company's initial production capacity is fully contracted to healthcare customers through a distribution network reaching 48 states.

Patented reactor system compresses chemical-to-finished-medicine production into hours

The company's Spinning Tube-in-Tube (STT) reactor system, designed and built in-house in Mesa, runs chemistry as a continuous flow rather than the stop-start batch cycles of conventional plants that can take days or weeks. Software manages quality from raw materials through sterile filling, with finished medicine coming off the line in hours and no chemical ingredients sourced overseas.

Tony Quinones, Founder and CEO of Bright Path, said the company's Mesa team converts base chemicals into finished medicine entirely within the United States at prices that compete with manufacturers in China and India.

Mesa facility anchors plans for a national network of regional manufacturing hubs

Bright Path's Mesa site is positioned as the first node in a planned national network of regional manufacturing hubs intended to serve hospitals, distributors and government customers.
