Foshan, China – September 08, 2026 -- ISO 11553-2:2026, the world's first international safety standard for handheld laser processing machinery, was officially published on August 28, 2026, following a seven-year development process led under China's technical direction. HSG Laser served as a core member of the Chinese expert group that initiated and drafted the standard.

New ISO standard shifts safety focus to product design, not user protocols

ISO 11553-2:2026 covers safety requirements for hand-held or hand-operated laser processing machines and marks the first ISO/IEC international safety standard for complete laser processing systems. The standard moves safety management away from personnel training and end-user protection toward mandating inherent safety design in the equipment itself, setting a unified global benchmark for the fast-growing handheld laser welding and cleaning equipment market.
