Aspocomp adds two 6-spindle drilling machines to expand PCB capacity

Finland – October 23, 2026 -- Aspocomp has invested in two new 6-spindle drilling machines to expand its drilling capacity and technology capabilities for high-reliability printed circuit boards (PCBs). The company describes the units as best-in-class equipment currently available on the market.

Drilling creates the electrical interconnections between PCB layers. Aspocomp says the accuracy, stability and consistency of this step directly affect signal integrity, reliability and overall product performance.

Backdrilling and high aspect ratio drilling are the headline capabilities

Aspocomp lists the following focus capabilities for the new platform:

  • Backdrilling, which removes unused stubs in multilayer PCBs using high-resolution optical alignment and adaptive process control for micron-level accuracy
  • High aspect ratio drilling of deep holes in thick multilayer designs
  • High-speed and deep drilling (peck drilling) for demanding materials, high layer counts and challenging depths
  • Coin drilling for specialized hole geometries and advanced stack-ups
  • HDI-ready precision alignment through optical alignment systems and continuous accuracy calibration
Real-time monitoring and non-contact tool measurement aim to prevent defects early

The drilling platform includes tool condition monitoring, broken tool detection and automatic compensation. It also features non-contact tool measurement and automated accuracy control. Aspocomp says these functions ensure repeatability, long-term process stability and early defect prevention.

Customers in high-frequency and mission-critical segments are the target

Aspocomp says the added capacity targets reliable electrical performance in high-frequency, high-speed and mission-critical applications. It also cites reduced risk of defects in downstream processes and support for complex HDI and multilayer designs. The company says the scalable output brings added capacity and flexibility.

The purchase is part of an ongoing investment program that Aspocomp says strengthens its core manufacturing processes and supports long-term growth. The company did not disclose the investment value or the installation timeline.
