Washington, D.C. – September 30, 2026 -- Volo Sports has acquired recreational sports operators Fray and CLUBWAKA Miami, adding Phoenix and Jacksonville as new markets and deepening its footprint in Washington, D.C. and Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood.
Fray brings nearly 40,000 annual player registrations across three cities
Founded in 2009 as United Social Sports, Fray operates leagues in Washington, D.C. (over 20,000 player registrations annually), Phoenix (over 9,000) and Jacksonville (over 9,000). The deal marks Volo's first entry into Phoenix and Jacksonville and expands its existing D.C. presence into Virginia across the DMV region. Jacksonville leagues run in Murray Hill, Southside, The Beaches, Arlington, Downtown, San Marco, Springfield and Town Center; Phoenix operations span Arcadia, Avondale, Downtown Phoenix, Mesa, North Scottsdale, Scottsdale and Tempe.
CLUBWAKA Miami adds established Coconut Grove field space and player base
CLUBWAKA Miami runs kickball and sand volleyball leagues out of venues including Peacock Park and David T. Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove. Volo's CEO Giovanni Marcantoni said Fray and CLUBWAKA Miami are among the strongest operators in the category and bring an established player base into new and existing markets. Volo will continue existing leagues, seasons and registrations at CLUBWAKA Miami while adding access to pickup games, additional sports and Volo Pass membership.
Deal follows 2025 ZogSports acquisition funded by Bluestone Equity Partners
The transactions build on Volo's 2025 acquisition of ZogSports, which added neighborhoods in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and San Jose, marked Volo's entry into Los Angeles, and added Hoboken and Jersey City in New Jersey. That acquisition strategy was backed by an investment from Bluestone Equity Partners secured in November 2024, earmarked for acquisition-driven growth in a recreational sports industry the company describes as highly fragmented.
Volo Kids Foundation to expand free youth programming into Phoenix and Jacksonville
Volo's nonprofit partner, the Volo Kids Foundation, has provided free youth sports programming totaling more than 108,000 player registrations to date. The foundation will extend that programming into Phoenix and Jacksonville as Volo's adult league operations expand into both markets. Volo Sports, founded in 2010 from a single bocce league in Baltimore, now operates across 17 major U.S. markets.
