UpRight Science Names Advisory Board Ahead of Falls Prevention Week

West Palm Beach, Fla. – – September 18, 2026 -- UpRight Science has assembled a five-member advisory board to accelerate adoption of its FDA-cleared balance measurement software, timed to Falls Prevention Awareness Week running Sept. 21-25.

Falls remain the top injury cause for older Americans, with 14 million reporting incidents annually

More than 14 million U.S. adults aged 65 and older, roughly one in four, report a fall each year, according to figures cited by the company. UpRight Science positions its technology as a way to make balance measurable and trackable as a clinical biomarker rather than a subjective assessment.

Board combines clinical, neuroscience, market-access and investment expertise

Joseph Shurman, MD, a former anesthesiology and pain management chair at Scripps Memorial Hospital who developed the DEA-supported "Share the Risk" model, will chair the board. Frederick "Ted" Carrick, DC, PhD, a neurology professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and senior research fellow linked to the University of Cambridge, brings vestibular rehabilitation and traumatic brain injury expertise. Crystal Gurin, former eMarketer publisher and Cybereps co-founder, adds go-to-market experience for emerging technology categories.

Angela Murray, RN, who led global Market Access and Health Economics and Outcomes Research at Baxter and Hillrom, contributes reimbursement and adoption strategy for healthcare technologies. Isaac Treitel, co-founder and Managing Partner of MedPro Investors and a director at TriState Ventures, provides more than 20 years of early-stage life science and technology investing experience.

Company technology turns smartphone sensors into a Software as a Medical Device

UpRight Science's FDA-cleared platform uses built-in smartphone sensors to measure balance and track changes over time, extending assessment capability beyond clinical settings. The company has also launched StayUpRight!, a free consumer app offering non-prescription balance tracking for general wellness use; the app is not classified as a medical device and users with balance concerns are directed to consult a physician.

CEO Terry Chabrowe said the advisory board members share a personal conviction about the impact of balance on independence and health, beyond their professional credentials. Chief Medical Officer Sanjeev Sharma, MD, said the board will help strengthen clinical evidence supporting balance as what the company terms the "sixth vital sign."
