Houston and Düsseldorf – October 01, 2026 -- Uniper has reserved future production capacity from Syzygy Plasmonics' NovaSAFTM biogas-to-sustainable aviation fuel platform, joining a growing list of fuel buyers backing the technology ahead of a final investment decision on the company's first commercial plant in Uruguay.

The agreement secures capacity under Syzygy's dual-certified pathway, which qualifies for both bio-based and RFNBO (renewable fuels of non-biological origin) SAF categories under European Union mandates. The deal adds commercial weight to Syzygy's planned NovaSAF facilities across Central and South America, with NovaSAF-1 in Uruguay now approaching final investment decision.
Düsseldorf-based Uniper expands low-carbon fuel portfolio amid ReFuelEU, CORSIA pressure
Uniper said the reservation builds its diversified low-carbon energy portfolio as European aviation faces rising fuel-mix requirements under the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation and the international CORSIA scheme. Benedikt Messner, SVP New Energies at Uniper, said the move extends the company's position in a high-growth market and complements its recent sustainable fuels announcements.
