Berlin – September 09, 2026 -- ToolDance unveiled its flagship X1 Smart Desktop CNC Mill at IFA 2026 in Berlin, targeting engineers, makers, and small manufacturers with a machine that delivers ±0.01mm positioning repeatability.
X1 spindle reaches 24,000rpm while retaining torque for roughing operations
The X1 is built around a 1,500W permanent magnet synchronous motor spindle that maintains torque at low speeds for heavy material removal and scales up to 24,000rpm for finishing passes. Its three-axis work envelope measures 400 x 265 x 180mm, sized for fixtures, molds, machine plates, and multi-part production runs. The machine accepts tool shanks up to 10mm, widening the range of cutters available for larger jobs, and supports both dry and flood-coolant machining across metals, wood, and engineering plastics.
Nine-tool automatic changer cuts manual intervention across multi-step jobs
A nine-position automatic tool changer handles transitions between roughing, drilling, finishing, chamfering, threading, and engraving operations without manual swaps. The frame uses a cast aluminum alloy reinforced along load-bearing paths to reduce vibration and hold accuracy during metal cutting.
ToolDance Studio software adds DFM checks and workholding guidance before cutting
The companion ToolDance Studio software runs a three-step workflow from model to part, including Design for Manufacturability analysis that flags geometry, tool-access, and stock issues before machining starts. A Workholding Guidance System recommends fixturing setups per operation with visual instructions, and an image-to-model feature converts photographs into editable CAD geometry.
Optional four- or five-axis module targets complex geometries in one setup
An expandable simultaneous four- or five-axis module allows the X1 to machine curved surfaces and fine details without re-clamping, preserving alignment across operations. "Our goal is to bring professional CNC capabilities to makers, engineers, and small businesses in a more accessible desktop format, while retaining the performance required for real manufacturing tasks," said Will Wang, Founder and CEO of ToolDance.
Kickstarter launch set for October 2026 following Berlin showcase
The X1 is on display at Hall 17, Booth H17-205 at Messe Berlin through Sept. 8, 2026, with live machining demonstrations running for the duration of IFA. ToolDance has scheduled the product's Kickstarter campaign launch for October 2026.
