Teal Health Raises $22M Ahead of 2027 Insurance Mandate for At-Home HPV Screening

San Francisco – September 22, 2026 -- Teal Health has closed $22 million in Series A funding to scale its at-home cervical cancer screening device ahead of January 2027, when federal guidelines will require most U.S. health plans to cover self-collection HPV testing.

Funding round brings Teal Health's total capital raised to $45 million

The round was led by .406 Ventures, with continued participation from Emerson Collective (managed by Yosemite), Forerunner, and Serena Ventures, plus new backing from Japan-based MPower Partners. The capital will fund hiring across clinical, commercial, technology and operational teams as the company expands partnerships with payors, health systems, employers and providers.

Nearly one in three U.S. women is behind on cervical cancer screening

Physician shortages and limited appointment availability have made traditional in-office screening difficult to access, according to the company. Teal Health's device, the Teal Wand, is the first FDA-authorized self-collection tool for at-home HPV cervical cancer screening, pairing at-home sample collection with a telehealth visit and secure results delivery, without requiring a speculum or clinic visit.

59% of Teal Wand users were previously underscreened for cervical cancer

Since its FDA authorization in 2025, Teal Health has screened thousands of women nationally and generated an average patient rating of 4.95 out of 5 across thousands of reviews. The company has been incorporated into national screening guidelines and produced 17 peer-reviewed papers and presentations supporting self-collection accuracy.

Roughly 4,320 U.S. women are expected to die from cervical cancer this year

Cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable cancers, yet thousands of new diagnoses occur annually in the U.S. Teal Health is a member of the Cervical Cancer Roundtable, a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and Cancer Moonshot.

CEO says the new funding targets scaling to meet patient and provider demand

"We designed Teal for all women, whether they are behind on their screening or coming due," said Kara Egan, CEO and Co-Founder of Teal Health. "This funding allows us to scale to meet the demand of patients and providers."

Kathryn Taylor Reddy, Partner at .406 Ventures, said patients are demanding more convenient healthcare access without sacrificing accuracy, and that Teal Health is positioned to transform preventive care delivery as insurance coverage expands in 2027.

The new capital will also expand direct-purchase options for individuals and organizations, aiming to move at-home screening from early-adopter use into routine, widely available preventive care nationwide.
