SpotSee Maps Four Cold-Chain Monitoring Tiers for Cell, Gene Therapy

Global – October 20, 2026 -- The International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) has made cold-chain readiness a specific focus for 2026, and SpotSee is outlining how shippers can match temperature-monitoring technology to the evidence their quality teams need.

ISCT's Cold Chain Management and Logistics Working Group is addressing cryopreservation, storage, shipping, handling and thawing. Therapies can pass through manufacturing sites, storage locations, specialized logistics providers and clinical sites. For autologous therapies, patient-derived material is collected, shipped for manufacturing and returned to the same patient, so each hand-off may require proof that temperature requirements held.

Visual indicators deliver immediate pass/fail evidence at receipt

ColdChain Complete combines ascending and descending indicators to give irreversible visual evidence of excursions. The smaller adhesive-backed ColdChain Complete XS fits different packaging configurations. ColdSNAP is a descending indicator that stays triggered if a product reaches or falls below its threshold, even after temperatures recover. None of these products records a continuous temperature history.

MaxiLog loggers record temperature history for post-shipment review

MaxiLog data loggers record temperature through storage and transport, so quality teams can establish when an excursion began and how long it lasted. MaxiLog PDF is a single-use logger that generates a PDF report when connected via USB. MaxiLog Alert options add configurable alarm parameters and recorded measurement data.

SpotBot GL adds location and impact data for high-value shipments

SpotBot GL monitors temperature, humidity and tri-axial impact. It reports shipment location through the SpotSee Cloud using cellular, Wi-Fi and GPS technologies. Teams can see whether an exception occurred before a shipment reached an airport, at an intermediate logistics location or in the final stage of transport. The device does not replace the quality procedures that decide whether a therapy remains suitable for use.

SpotSee's guidance is that no single solution fits every shipment. The right tier depends on the therapy, its temperature range, the journey's complexity and duration, and the decision a team must make on arrival.
