Santa Barbara, Calif. – September 30, 2026 -- Sidero Labs launched Talos Director, a single management platform positioned as a direct alternative to VMware for enterprises migrating virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters off legacy virtualization stacks. The platform is now in Limited Availability, with general availability planned for January 2027.

Built on Talos Linux and the Talos Hypervisor, Talos Director unifies management of virtual machines, Kubernetes clusters, storage and networking under a single declarative, immutable configuration model. The company says this eliminates the configuration drift that typically affects traditional data center environments.
A migration engine converts VMware workloads without code changes
Sidero Labs said its migration engine converts existing VMware virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters onto Talos Director without requiring application changes or platform reengineering. "Talos Director lets enterprises move off VMware without rearchitecting anything," said Steve Francis, president of Sidero Labs. He said customers gain immediate security and reliability benefits and can later adopt Kubernetes on the same platform, API and team, on their own timeline.
Yardi has already moved thousands of VMs and hundreds of Kubernetes clusters
Talos Director is running production workloads across thousands of virtual machines and hundreds of Kubernetes clusters at Yardi, which acquired Sidero Labs in July 2026. "The Talos Director conversion and migration functionality has been invaluable and allowed us to transition without any platform reengineering," said Joel Loewen, vice president of Yardi Cloud, adding that Yardi Cloud is on track to fully transition to the platform.
The platform includes live migration, auto-scaling and micro-segmentation features
Talos Director provides centralized lifecycle management including live migration, high availability, auto-scaling, performance-based resource scheduling, micro-segmentation and live traffic analysis, all validated in production at scale within Yardi's environment.
A live demo is scheduled for TalosCon 2026 in Amsterdam
Sidero Labs will demonstrate Talos Director live at TalosCon 2026 in Amsterdam on October 15-16. Limited Availability customers receive full production support and direct engagement with Sidero Labs engineering during onboarding ahead of the January 2027 general release.
