Alflen – September 10, 2026 -- Emilio Donaubauer, 27, generated between €2,000 and €3,000 a month from a self-taught design and content business while still a teenage apprentice, income that outpaced his training salary and became the foundation for two companies he now controls: EmilioMindless GmbH and holding entity Mindless Empire GmbH.
Donaubauer built a paying client base from unpaid gaming-industry design work starting at age 13
Donaubauer taught himself Photoshop to produce thumbnails, banners and video edits after connecting with major German gaming influencers. He worked unpaid for several years before referrals converted the skill into paid contracts, shifting focus around age 16-17 from individual creator clients to B2B customers seeking longer-term branding relationships.
He left a chimney-sweep apprenticeship at 18 after proving recurring revenue with client contracts and bank statements
Donaubauer completed compulsory schooling with a Hauptschulabschluss and a 3.4 grade average, then entered a chimney-sweep apprenticeship despite his commercial interest lying elsewhere. He continued building his design business during off-hours, and at 18 presented his parents with client contracts and account statements to justify moving into full self-employment.
Early commercial success came with a personal cost that Donaubauer says included identity crises
As the business scaled, Donaubauer's daily routine narrowed largely to work and sleep, with family, relationships and recovery time pushed aside. He describes the period as producing psychological strain and says visible markers of success, including income and status symbols, masked a growing gap between business performance and personal stability.
Donaubauer now runs a holding structure bundling equity stakes rather than operating each business directly
His current ventures center on branding, marketing, demand generation and scaling services delivered through EmilioMindless GmbH, while Mindless Empire GmbH consolidates company shares and additional investments. Donaubauer now works alongside co-founders and managing directors who run day-to-day operations in their respective ventures, while he contributes capital and marketing expertise depending on the project.
The model shifts his role from operator to long-term capital and branding partner
Donaubauer says his benchmark for growth has moved from revenue and visible status toward responsibility owed to employees, customers and partners. Through Mindless Empire GmbH, he intends to take further equity positions where his branding and marketing background complements the operational expertise of other founders.
