RPM Market to Nearly Double to $62.2B by 2031, Wissen Research Finds

Sheridan, Wyoming – September 20, 2026 -- The global remote patient monitoring (RPM) market is set to grow from $34.5 billion in 2026 to $62.2 billion by 2031, a 12.5% compound annual growth rate, according to a new study by Wissen Research.

Reimbursement codes and readmission penalties push hospitals toward RPM at scale

Dedicated CMS billing codes are giving U.S. providers a recurring revenue incentive to deploy RPM, while health systems use the technology to avoid costly 30-day readmission penalties tied to chronic disease relapse. Cardiovascular disease held the largest application share in 2025, reflecting the clinical and financial burden of heart failure, atrial fibrillation and hypertension.

AI platforms shift RPM from passive data collection to predictive alerts

Monitoring platforms are increasingly flagging abnormal vital-sign trends, prioritizing alerts by patient risk level, and predicting disease progression or readmission risk before a crisis occurs, cutting manual review time for clinical staff. Cellular-enabled, plug-and-play devices are removing home-network setup as an adoption barrier for elderly and non-technical patients — the population that needs RPM most.

Philips, Abbott and Oracle advance cardiac monitoring and interoperability

In May 2026, Koninklijke Philips N.V., together with Cuviva AB and Vingmed AB, was selected by Region Stockholm to run a hospital-at-home RPM program covering up to 15,000 patients annually. Abbott Laboratories received U.S. FDA approval in February 2026 for its next-generation CardioMEMS HERO reader, adding portability and cellular connectivity for real-time pulmonary artery pressure monitoring. That same month, Oracle Corporation launched its Health Device Validation Program with Bio IntelliSense and Baxter International to standardize medical device integration across health systems. In October 2025, OMRON Healthcare acquired the Heartnote long-term Holter ECG analysis business from JSR Corporation, expanding its cardiac monitoring footprint in Japan.

Billing fraud scrutiny and alert fatigue threaten efficiency gains

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General has intensified scrutiny of RPM billing amid a rise in fraudulent claims. As RPM scales to larger patient populations, clinical staff face growing volumes of critical, non-critical and redundant alerts, undermining the efficiency gains the technology is meant to deliver. Device interoperability across vendors and inconsistent patient adherence, particularly among older adults, add further implementation friction.

North America leads adoption; Asia-Pacific posts the fastest growth

North America held the largest regional share in 2025, supported by CMS reimbursement codes, a large chronic disease burden and mature digital health infrastructure. Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region, driven by expanding digital health infrastructure and rising chronic disease prevalence across China, India, Japan, South Korea and Australia. RPM devices — including continuous glucose monitors, cardiac monitoring systems, blood pressure monitors and wearable biosensors — led the market by offering type in 2025, forming the foundation of recurring sensor revenue for vendors.
