London – – September 30, 2026 -- RBC Capital Markets has been awarded General Clearing Member (GCM) status by European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC), enabling the bank to clear and settle transactions on behalf of Non-Clearing Members across Europe's energy and commodity markets.
RBC gains authorization to clear power, gas and carbon products via EEX
As a General Clearing Member, RBC Capital Markets can now offer a full suite of clearing services covering power and gas futures and spot contracts, European Energy Exchange (EEX) carbon auctions, and a broader range of products across the wider EEX platform.
The status extends the bank's clearing reach to clients that include some of Europe's largest energy producers, utilities and financial institutions, according to the company.
Executives frame the move as a response to Europe's energy transition
Eric Aldous, global head of clearing services and futures at RBC Capital Markets, said the GCM status is a significant step for the bank's clearing and futures business, enabling expanded reach and deeper access to European energy and commodity markets for participants.
Brandon Everhardt, global head of commodities at RBC Capital Markets, said the status allows the bank to bring clients the full breadth of commodities markets, from power and natural gas to environmental products, as Europe's energy landscape evolves.
ECC cites the addition as a strengthening of its clearing network
European Commodity Clearing AG said the addition of RBC Capital Markets as a General Clearing Member provides the wider trading community with greater access to EEX energy and commodity markets, and reinforces the role of cleared markets in managing risk and ensuring transparent trading.
EEX offers trading in power, natural gas, environmental and freight products, alongside clearing and regulatory services, with RBC's new GCM status covering clearing across these markets through ECC.
