Nel ASA Wins $7M More in Submarine PEM Stack Orders From Collins

Oslo – September 30, 2026 -- Nel ASA's US subsidiary, Nel Hydrogen US, has secured approximately USD 7 million in new purchase orders from Collins Aerospace for PEM electrolyser stacks used in submarine life-support systems, pushing the company's total submarine-related order intake from Collins Aerospace to roughly USD 20 million this quarter.

New orders cover US, UK and French naval programs

The latest orders relate to submarine programs across three countries and will be booked as order intake in the third quarter of 2026. They follow a USD 12 million purchase order announced on September 29, 2026, along with several smaller orders received earlier in the month, bringing the combined value from Collins Aerospace to approximately USD 20 million.

Wallingford, Connecticut facility to manufacture the stacks

Deliveries under the new orders are scheduled for 2027 and 2028, with production based at Nel's manufacturing site in Wallingford, Connecticut. The facility supplies PEM electrolyser stacks for life-support applications where reliability and product lifetime are critical requirements.

Nel cites operating track record in specialized defense niche

"These additional orders extend our work across several submarine programs and demonstrate continued demand for our PEM technology," said Todd Cartwright, Nel's Chief Commercial Officer. He added that submarine life-support systems demand strict reliability and lifetime performance, an area where Nel's operating history and manufacturing base have supported repeat business from Collins Aerospace.
