London – October 08, 2026 -- Markel Insurance has launched a new Chemical, Oil & Gas related Energy Property (CORE) offering for small to midsize US-domiciled businesses, backed by coverage limits of up to $50 million on primary and excess-of-loss bases.
Markel targets midstream and downstream US energy risks with dedicated property cover
The CORE offering provides tailored protection for property damage, business interruption and, on selected risks, equipment breakdown across industrial organic chemicals, petrochemicals, natural gas transmission and storage, terminals, gas processing, and midstream and downstream operations. Clients gain coverage against natural catastrophe exposures including flood, windstorm and earthquake.
Candice Walker takes charge of First-Party Energy underwriting unit
Walker, who has more than 20 years of property insurance experience and has been with Markel since 2015, will lead development of the new offering as Head of First-Party Energy. She previously served as Senior Director, First Party – West Region, after roles in Markel's US Environmental & Casualty team and as Director, Property & Marine. Her team will work alongside Markel's existing Midstream and Downstream underwriting units to assess, price and underwrite businesses ranging from smaller operations to complex US onshore energy risks.
Walker said the offering responds to a risk landscape shaped by rising natural catastrophe events, operational disruptions and economic pressure on energy businesses, giving US brokers and clients access to Markel's underwriting, claims and engineering expertise.
Michael McClain joins as Senior Underwriter from Enbridge subsidiary Tomorrow RNG
Based in Texas, McClain joins as Senior Underwriter – Energy, reporting to Walker, and will support the CORE offering's development while guiding Markel's Midstream and Downstream US portfolios. He most recently served as Manager of Technical Operations at Tomorrow RNG, a subsidiary gas group of Enbridge Inc, leading the Technical Operations team and setting corporate standards. He previously held senior roles at Aethon Energy, LLC, a privately held gas producer and midstream group, where he executed multimillion-dollar oil and gas infrastructure projects across facilities, construction and production in East Texas.
