Fort Lauderdale – – September 08, 2026 -- KIC Ventures issued a corporate clarification confirming that the U.S. Department of Justice dismissed all criminal charges against portfolio company SpineFrontier Inc. on January 17, 2025, and that no current KIC Ventures portfolio company faces ongoing DOJ litigation tied to the matter.
DOJ moved to dismiss all criminal charges against SpineFrontier in January 2025.
The company stated that no KIC Ventures portfolio entity pleaded guilty to any criminal charge arising from the case and that none remains a defendant in related federal litigation. KIC Ventures said it issued the reminder because customers, physicians and investors may still encounter older reports referencing the original allegations without the case's subsequent dismissal.
The case originated from 2015 employee allegations about surgeon consultant payments.
Three former SpineFrontier employees raised concerns in 2015 regarding the company's relationships with surgeon consultants dating to approximately 2013. Those allegations led to a multi-year federal investigation and criminal charges against SpineFrontier and certain former executives before the DOJ's dismissal a decade later.
Former CFO Aditya Humad's individual plea remains separate from the corporate dismissal.
KIC Ventures said Humad accepted a plea agreement resolving his own criminal case, a resolution distinct from the corporate charges dropped by the DOJ. The company confirmed Humad has fully separated from KIC, KIC Ventures and their affiliates, holding no employment agreement, management role, ownership stake or authority to act on their behalf.
KIC Ventures said it has since added outside compliance counsel and formal legal review of physician interactions and agreements. "Compliance oversight is now built directly into how we operate and grow," the company said.
