Huawei Debuts Six Power Grid Showcases to Merge AI With Energy Systems

Shanghai – September 24, 2026 -- Huawei unveiled six global power industry showcases at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, spotlighting end-to-end digital transformation projects spanning power generation to consumption across China, Brazil, and international markets.

More than 600 industry representatives attend Global Electric Power Summit

The 2026 Global Electric Power Summit, themed "AI x Energy: Unlocking a New Power System," drew over 600 delegates from power companies, industry organizations, and ecosystem partners. The event marked what Huawei described as a shift in the power sector from unidirectional technology enablement to computing-power synergy.

CIGRE official cites AI data centers as key transformation driver

Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), told attendees the power industry is undergoing massive transformation driven by energy transition, AI data centers, and digitalization. Huawei framed AI as a survival essential for the century-old power system, citing intertwined pressures from renewable energy integration, intelligent transformation, and a lack of electricity access affecting 700 million people worldwide.

Huawei identifies low-voltage grids as the next AI battleground

Huawei executives said low voltage represents the primary bottleneck in power grids and will become the main arena for AI deployment. The company outlined six core capabilities required for low-voltage transparency: observability, measurability, controllability, adjustability, tradability, and traceability.

David Sun, CEO of the Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, said low-voltage transparency depends on faster data, higher quality, and greater cost-efficiency. He outlined three priorities for the industry: digital talent first, digital infrastructure first, and digital regulated asset base first.

Six showcases span Brazil, China converter stations, and microgrid networks

The showcases include the digital grid of Brazil's CEMIG utility; a distribution-microgrid synergy demonstration zone at China Southern Power Grid's Guangzhou Baiyun Power Supply Bureau; intelligent diagnosis systems for a distribution network in Shaoshan, Hunan; intelligent power supply and consumption systems in Jiangxi; a ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage digital converter station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang; and a power communication network in Liaoning. The projects collectively cover generation, distribution, and consumption stages across both domestic Chinese and international deployments.

Huawei commits to three-layer framework for future grid partnerships

Huawei said it will continue applying a three-layer framework built on metrics, architectures, and technologies as it works with power enterprises, standards organizations, and ecosystem partners on further grid digitalization projects.
