New ISO standard shifts safety focus to product design, not user protocols
ISO 11553-2:2026 covers safety requirements for hand-held or hand-operated laser processing machines and marks the first ISO/IEC international safety standard for complete laser processing systems. The standard moves safety management away from personnel training and end-user protection toward mandating inherent safety design in the equipment itself, setting a unified global benchmark for the fast-growing handheld laser welding and cleaning equipment market.
Standard followed seven years of cross-border technical review and voting
Development of the standard involved global technical reviews, cross-border voting, and multi-stakeholder consultations over seven years. HSG Laser contributed decades of R&D experience along with practical application data and on-site safety practice data gathered from its installed equipment base to inform the technical drafting process.

HSG Laser holds 445 patents and has installed more than 50,000 units worldwide, serving nearly 30,000 customers in over 100 countries through 20 global branches.
