Hologic Presents Groundbreaking AI-Powered Mammography Technology at SBI 2025 Symposium

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – May 7, 2025 – Hologic, Inc. (Nasdaq: HOLX) is set to showcase its latest innovations in AI-driven mammography technology at the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) Annual Symposium in Colorado Springs this week. A key highlight of the event will be the presentation of a pioneering study conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital, demonstrating the impact of Hologic's Genius AI® Detection Solution in improving breast cancer detection.

Revolutionary AI Mammography Technology

At the core of Hologic's presentation is a retrospective study involving 5,000 digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) exams conducted between 2016 and 2019. This study focused on evaluating the performance of the Genius AI® Detection 2.0 mammography solution. Researchers analyzed screening results to determine the AI system’s ability to identify previously missed cancers and accurately detect and localize confirmed cases.

The study revealed that among the 5,000 exams, 100 cancer cases were initially overlooked by radiologists but were later confirmed to be malignant. Hologic’s AI system successfully detected some of these previously missed cases, demonstrating its potential to significantly improve early breast cancer detection.

"As AI continues to evolve, I believe it will become an increasingly vital tool for radiologists, helping to transform breast cancer detection and ultimately reduce the burden of this disease for patients,” said Dr. Manisha Bahl, Breast Imaging Division Quality Director at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bahl is presenting the research findings at the symposium.

Introducing Advanced Detection Solutions

In addition to the Genius AI® Detection 2.0, Hologic will highlight its new Genius AI Detection PRO solution. This advanced tool offers enhanced cancer detection capabilities by analyzing prior exams and providing an AI assistant that automates reporting and other workflow tasks. The Genius AI Detection PRO uses a color-coded system—green indicating no cancer, and red signaling a confirmed presence of cancer—to simplify the radiologist’s workflow, ultimately reducing reading time by up to 24%.

These innovations are part of Hologic’s broader commitment to improving breast health through AI and advanced imaging technologies.

Featured Sessions at the SBI Symposium

Hologic will also host several educational sessions focused on the integration of AI and other advanced technologies into mammography practices:

  • Enhancing Your Imaging Suite with Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM)
    April 24 at 1:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. MT
Sponsored by Bayer in collaboration with Hologic, this session will provide hands-on training for implementing CEM into radiology practices.
  • Empowering Mammography with AI: Enhancing Accuracy and Early Detection
    April 25 at 12:15 p.m. MT
This lunch-and-learn session will focus on the role of AI in improving mammography accuracy, early detection, and clinical integration.

A Vision for the Future of Breast Health

"It’s an exciting time for breast health innovation, and we’re proud to showcase our latest advancements at this year’s SBI event," said Mark Horvath, President of Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions at Hologic.
