HEIDELBERG Secures Polar Mohr Brand and Technology to Bolster Systems Integration in Packaging Market

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 25, 2025 – Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) has signed an agreement with the Polar Group to acquire the technology, brand rights, and intellectual property (IP) of the renowned postpress specialist Polar Mohr, marking a pivotal step in its expansion strategy for the packaging and label market. The acquisition will give HEIDELBERG exclusive global rights for sales, service, and marketing of Polar Mohr postpress products, further solidifying its position as a comprehensive systems integrator.

Strategic Growth through Consolidation

With this move, HEIDELBERG is not only reaffirming a decades-long partnership but also accelerating its transformation into a total solution provider for the packaging and label sector. The acquisition is expected to close within the next few weeks. Once finalized, HEIDELBERG will integrate the Polar Mohr product line more deeply into its value proposition, enhancing offerings for customers worldwide — particularly in growth markets across Asia, South America, and the Middle East.

HEIDELBERG is aiming to achieve targeted growth through M&A activities in attractive market segments. This acquisition underscores our credentials as a full-range supplier for our customers in the packaging and label industry, including service, and gives us exclusivity in a growing market,” stated Jürgen Otto, CEO of HEIDELBERG. “As a systems integrator, we cover the entire value chain of a packaging print shop – on a fully integrated and networked basis – to ensure production is highly productive. Polar Mohr systems play a key role in this context.

Seamless Transition and Continued Collaboration

The acquisition will not affect the end-customer experience. Sales, service, and parts support processes will continue without disruption. Importantly, the Polar Group, owned by SOL Capital Management, will remain a development and manufacturing partner for HEIDELBERG, maintaining continuity in innovation and production.

When we took over the Polar Group in early 2023, we acquired a tradition-steeped group of companies full of innovative spirit. Over the past couple of years, we have further intensified the collaboration with HEIDELBERG. The next logical step for us was the long-term consolidation of this very close relationship. We are delighted to be taking the next important step together with this sale of brand rights and technology and the full incorporation of sales and service activities into the HEIDELBERG organization. This transaction will strengthen the market position of HEIDELBERG in the postpress, label, and packaging market on a long-term basis. It also leaves Polar Mohr to focus entirely on its core competences as a developer and manufacturer,” said Dr. Paul Niederkofler, Managing Partner at SOL Capital Management.

Strengthening a Trusted Legacy

The HEIDELBERG–Polar Mohr partnership dates back to the 1950s and has proven mutually beneficial over the decades. HEIDELBERG has long been responsible for sales and service activities related to Polar Mohr products, while Polar Mohr has focused on product development and manufacturing. With this acquisition, HEIDELBERG is taking full ownership of the customer interface, reinforcing its end-to-end systems integration capability.

Polar Mohr’s product line, now a key part of HEIDELBERG’s postpress portfolio, emphasizes automation, digitalization, and workflow integration. It includes:

  • Jogging and cutting systems with edge-precise alignment
  • Die cutting, unloading, and banding units
  • Inline automation for label and packaging postpress workflows

Expanding Global Footprint and Technological Synergy

The deal is part of HEIDELBERG’s broader growth strategy, which includes digital printing, automation technologies, and green technologies. HEIDELBERG’s global infrastructure — with production sites in Europe, the U.S., and China, along with one of the largest global service networks — supports the integration and global rollout of the Polar Mohr solutions.

The companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.
