HEI Builds 1,890 MW Nairyah 2 Plant With Workers From 13+ Countries

Dammam – October 12, 2026 -- Harbin Electric International (HEI) is delivering the 1,890-megawatt Nairyah 2 combined-cycle power plant in Saudi Arabia, a project tied to the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative, and has released a documentary on the build.

HEI staffs Nairyah 2 with engineers and workers from more than 13 countries

The workforce draws on Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Colleagues from Spain, South Korea, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia work on site together. HEI says language gaps and cultural differences were initially major barriers, and that its project team addressed them through open communication and shared goals.

On-site meetings bring together specialists from different backgrounds to develop technical solutions.

Desert heat of up to 50°C and sandstorms compress the construction schedule

The plant is under construction on remote desert terrain where mobile connectivity was limited in the early stages. The source lists extreme heat, frequent sandstorms and tight timelines as the main obstacles. The project also carries complex technical requirements because it uses Siemens H-class power equipment.

Energy cycle technology targets lower fuel use and emissions

HEI says the facility uses an energy cycle technology designed to cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The company describes the plant as a benchmark for global power generation, though the source gives no efficiency or emissions figures.

The documentary is available on YouTube.
