San Luis Obispo – October 07, 2026 -- Gateworks Corporation, an Ezurio company, has launched the GW16170, a 900MHz 802.11ah Wi-Fi HaLow radio delivering up to +27.5 dBm of transmit power for industrial IoT and edge AI deployments across North America.
GW16170 extends Wi-Fi HaLow range beyond standard deployments
Built on the Morse Micro MM8108-M20-US module and manufactured in the USA, the M.2 2230 E-Key card operates in the license-exempt 902–928 MHz band. The sub-GHz frequency profile improves wall and foliage penetration compared with conventional 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, and the elevated power output further extends the link budget for large industrial campuses and outdoor sites.
Higher transmit power cuts access-point infrastructure needs
Gateworks positions the GW16170 as a way to reduce the number of access points required to cover expansive yards, campuses and outdoor facilities. The radio supports data rates up to 43.3 Mbps and more than 100 connected clients per access point, targeting mission-critical applications including smart transportation, smart energy and smart city security systems.
Card integrates as drop-in module across Gateworks SBC lines
The GW16170 functions plug-and-play with any single board computer carrying a standard M.2 E-Key socket, including Gateworks' Venice, VeniceFLEX and Catalina families built on NXP Semiconductors' i.MX 8M Mini, i.MX 8M Plus and i.MX 95 processors. It supports access point and station modes, WPA2-PSK, WPA3-SAE and WPA3-OWE security, and standard Linux IP networking without proprietary SDKs.
Executives cite demand for cellular-grade range without cellular cost
"The GW16170 gives system integrators a high-power option purpose-built for North America's toughest coverage challenges — the kind of range and reliability that used to require cellular or costly proprietary radios," said Kelly Peralta, Vice President of Sales & Business Development at Gateworks Corporation. Morse Micro CEO Michael De Nil said the module demonstrates how Wi-Fi HaLow technology is maturing to meet industrial-grade range and reliability requirements.
Product is FCC certified; European deployments require separate model
The GW16170 is FCC certified for North American deployment. Customers operating in Europe are directed to the companion GW16167 model instead. The GW16170 is available now through Gateworks and its authorized channel partners.
