Galaxia to Build Autonomous Flight Safety System for Nova Scotia Spaceport

Halifax – October 07, 2026 -- Galaxia and Maritime Launch Services Inc. (CBOE: MAXQ, OTCQB: MAXQF) have agreed that Galaxia will develop and supply an Autonomous Flight Safety System (AFSS) for launch operations at Spaceport Nova Scotia, marking a step toward Canadian sovereign launch capability.

Galaxia's AFSS replaces ground-based range safety with onboard vehicle decision-making

The system will process launch vehicle sensor data in real time onboard the rocket to determine whether termination criteria have been met, reducing dependence on traditional ground-based range safety infrastructure. The design incorporates redundant radiation-hardened controllers, deterministic real-time signal processing, multi-sensor data fusion for vehicle health monitoring, and a space-grade independent power system intended to operate under mission-critical conditions.

NRC IRAP backs Canadian supply chain development alongside Maritime Launch funding

The program is funded by Maritime Launch Services with additional support through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The funding structure is aimed at building domestic technology capability for safe and reliable launch operations rather than relying on foreign range-safety systems.

Both companies operate from Atlantic Canada, a region positioning itself as Canada's defence capital

Galaxia and Maritime Launch Services are both headquartered in Atlantic Canada. Maritime Launch is developing Spaceport Nova Scotia, described as Canada's first orbital launch complex, intended to serve government, commercial and international clients across a range of orbital inclinations from a single site.

"This partnership demonstrates how Atlantic Canadian companies are building the technologies needed for Canada to launch, operate, and protect critical space assets from Canadian soil," said Lucas Rowlands, VP, Mission Operations at Galaxia.

Maritime Launch frames the deal as strengthening its domestic supply chain for defence and commercial clients

Melissa Quinn, VP, Spaceport Operations at Maritime Launch Services, said the collaboration allows the company to draw on Atlantic Canadian engineering talent while building a domestic supply chain to support launch operations for commercial, civil, and defence customers.
