Madrid – October 01, 2026 -- Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA has completed the acquisition of the remaining 45% stake in mAbxience from Insud Pharma, giving the German healthcare group full ownership of the Spanish biosimilars manufacturer.
Fresenius consolidates control after four-year partnership
Fresenius first acquired a 55% majority stake in mAbxience in August 2022 and has consolidated the business since then. The deal closes out that ownership structure, placing mAbxience's biosimilars platform entirely within Fresenius Kabi's Biopharma division, which spans development, manufacturing and commercialization.
CEO cites financial strength to capture biologics patent cliff
Michael Sen, Chief Executive Officer of Fresenius, said the company now has the financial strength to take full control as a wave of biologics loses patent exclusivity. He said full ownership gives Fresenius complete control over cost, capacity and launch timing, as well as full economic benefit from upcoming biosimilar launches.
mAbxience leadership to remain in place under new reporting line
Jurgen van Broeck, Chief Executive Officer of mAbxience, will continue to lead the business, now reporting to Dr. Sang-Jin Pak, President Biopharma at Fresenius. Van Broeck credited Insud Pharma's decade-long backing and said the deal creates a stronger platform for innovation and long-term growth for patients, customers and partners.
Company commits to existing supply and customer obligations
mAbxience said it will continue supporting its existing customers and partners, and remains committed to maintaining quality and reliable supply of its biosimilars worldwide. The partnership since 2022 has delivered manufacturing capability expansion, technology-transfer programs and regulatory milestones, according to the companies.
