Houston – September 15, 2026 -- Fiber broadband has added an estimated $1.6 billion in aggregate home value to single-family homes sold across Houston since 2020, according to an independent study commissioned by Ezee Fiber titled "Fueling Houston's Growth with Fiber."
Fiber coverage jumped from 75% to 94% of Harris County in three years
Access to fiber broadband providers in Harris County rose from 75% in 2022 to 94% by late 2025, reflecting sustained infrastructure investment across the region. Median download speeds nearly tripled over the same period, climbing from roughly 80 Mbps in December 2022 to more than 280 Mbps by December 2025, approaching the national average of 308.11 Mbps.
Home values could rise another $2.4 billion by 2029
The $1.6 billion fiber premium equates to roughly $275 million in added value annually since 2020. The report projects that expanding fiber access toward full coverage by 2029 could generate more than $2.4 billion in additional property value for Houston homeowners.
Fiber deployment contributed to over 2,000 jobs between 2021 and 2024
The study links fiber infrastructure expansion to more than 2,000 jobs gained in Houston during that period, with several hundred additional jobs projected once full population deployment is reached by 2029. Communities with median download speeds of 250 Mbps are more likely to generate new small businesses than those with speeds of only 100 Mbps, the report found.
Fiber networks underpin NASA, aerospace and Eli Lilly's $6.5 billion investment
The report identifies fiber as foundational infrastructure for Houston's aerospace and industrial base, providing connectivity for NASA's Johnson Space Center and companies including Axiom Space and Intuitive Machines. It also supports Eli Lilly's $6.5 billion manufacturing investment and SCADA and smart grid operations across more than 4,200 energy firms headquartered in the region.
Fiber-served students show measurable test score gains
Students in fiber-served areas recorded math scores 2.3% higher and reading scores 1.1% higher than peers without fiber access, according to the study. "This report puts a number on something we see every day in Houston: fiber has become core infrastructure here, not just an amenity," said Suzy Winger, SVP and General Manager, Texas Region, Ezee Fiber.
