Atlanta – September 22, 2026 -- Equifax has launched Healthcare Report Credential ID, an automated screening tool built to cut delays in verifying healthcare provider licenses and certifications during hiring.
Physician and nursing shortages drive demand for faster onboarding
The U.S. faces a projected shortfall of more than 106,000 physicians and 267,000 registered nurses by 2027, a gap expected to widen over the next decade. Manual credentialing processes currently place administrative strain on hospital staff and delay start dates for patient-facing hires, according to Equifax.
New tool combines license verification with identity data to flag fraud
Healthcare Report Credential ID delivers primary source verification of license and certification data -- including license type, status and expiration date -- packaged as a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The report is paired with Equifax identity data, cross-checking applicant information against license records to help detect fraudulent credentials.
"The administrative burden of manual verifications can often stall the start dates of critical patient-facing hires," said Bart Lautenbach, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Talent Solutions at Equifax Workforce Solutions. He said the tool is designed to help background screeners and healthcare employers speed onboarding while maintaining care quality.
Product expands Equifax's existing pre-hire screening portfolio
Healthcare Report Credential ID joins Equifax's existing suite of employment and education verification tools, as well as criminal background check solutions, extending the company's footprint in healthcare workforce screening.
