EDB Ties AI Governance to Energy Efficiency at UN Summit

New York – September 25, 2026 -- Sixty-nine percent of enterprise technology decision-makers now weigh energy more heavily in AI and data infrastructure decisions than a year ago, according to new research from EnterpriseDB (EDB) presented at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit this week. The survey of 300 respondents, conducted in September 2026, found reliability of supply cited by 49% of respondents as a leading energy factor, with cost and energy efficiency each cited by 48%.

EDB warns AI agent growth will strain global power supply

The International Energy Agency projects more than one billion AI agents could be operating by 2030, alongside a roughly twofold increase in global data-center electricity demand. In a keynote address, EDB Chief Legal Officer Rob Feldman told summit attendees that the industry has the chips, models and infrastructure for the AI era but lacks a governing layer to tie them together securely and sustainably.

Company files patent for agents that govern other agents

EDB has filed a patent application for a system in which AI agents oversee other autonomous agents, an approach Feldman compared to redundant, self-checking systems used in aircraft. The company is building this governance directly into the data layer through EDB Postgres AI (EDB PG AI), giving organizations control over where data resides and how AI systems access it.

EDB's "intelligence per watt" approach consolidates workloads and reduces data movement rather than requiring additional servers to support AI. Internal benchmarks showed the method cut token consumption by up to 57% for one customer, lowering the processing load tied to agent activity.

Independent audit finds 94% fewer compute cores across 120 data centers

Working with three large customers operating more than 120 data centers, EDB commissioned independent analysis from Incendium Consulting, which found up to 94% fewer compute cores required and up to 87% expected emissions reduction after workload consolidation. EDB is now developing a carbon calculator to measure before-and-after impact at scale.
