Tianjin Team's COF Membrane Hits Record CO2 Permeability at $38/t

Tianjin – October 13, 2026 -- Researchers at Tianjin University have developed an all-organic mixed-matrix membrane that raised CO2 permeability by an order of magnitude in simulated flue gas tests, a new record, with a preliminary capture cost estimate of about $38 per tonne of CO2.

The study appeared online in Nature Energy on Oct. 7 under the title "All-organic mixed-matrix membranes with single-crystal covalent organic frameworks for carbon capture."

Weak-interaction inlaying targets the filler-polymer compatibility problem

Mixed-matrix membranes pair the processability of polymers with the molecular transport of porous fillers. Development has been limited by compatibility problems between the two components. Porous particles can aggregate or settle within the polymer. Overly strong filler-polymer interactions can restrict polymer movement or block transport pathways.

Tianjin University's BCI Device Cuts Diagnosis Time to 30 Minutes

Tianjin, China – October 02, 2026 -- Tianjin University's "Shengong-Shengao" system has become China's first approved brain-computer interface (BCI) medical device for diagnosing cognitive impairment, cutting diagnosis time for conditions like hydrocephalus from days to just 30 minutes. The milestone marks a commercial breakthrough as TJU, China's first modern university, marks its 131st anniversary on October 2, 2026.

Shengong device line moves from lab to clinical wards nationwide

Developed by a team led by Professor Liu Xiuyun, the Shengong-Shengao system received regulatory approval and has already been joined by more than 20 additional devices in the Shengong series now deployed in clinical settings. The university states the devices have delivered measurable benefits to thousands of patients, signaling rapid translation of university research into deployable medical hardware.
