London – September 19, 2026 -- Clarivate Plc (NYSE: CLVT) named 22 researchers as its Citation Laureates 2026, identifying scientists whose work the company's Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) considers Nobel-class ahead of this year's Nobel Prize announcements. Since the program began in 2002, 89 previously named Citation Laureates have gone on to win Nobel Prizes.
GLP-1 obesity drug scientists top this year's list
Daniel J. Drucker, Jens Juul Holst and Svetlana Mojsov were recognized for foundational discoveries in GLP-1 biology that enabled the development of GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines now used to treat diabetes and obesity in millions of patients worldwide. Drucker, a Senior Investigator at Sinai Health's Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and University Professor at the University of Toronto's Division of Endocrinology, said the therapies emerged from curiosity-driven research into how gut hormones regulate metabolism. "It is a reminder that fundamental science can have impacts far beyond what researchers initially imagine," Drucker said.
Selection spans medicine, physics, chemistry and economics
This year's honorees were selected across four disciplines. In Physiology or Medicine, laureates were recognized for GLP-1 biology, optical medical imaging and immune system research. Physics honorees advanced OLED display technology, energy-efficient computing materials and quantum electronics. Chemistry laureates contributed to self-assembled nanomaterials, biological electron transfer and precision gene editing. Economics honorees were recognized for research on the digital economy, monetary policy and central banking, and organizational innovation.
Sixteen of 22 laureates are based in the United States
The 2026 cohort is affiliated with institutions across seven countries and regions: 16 researchers are based in the United States, with one each in Canada, Denmark, Israel, Japan, Mainland China and Switzerland.
Selection draws on citation data from 67 million indexed papers
ISI analysts used publication and citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection, which indexes more than 67 million articles and proceedings since 1970, to identify the laureates. Fewer than 0.02% of indexed papers have been cited more than 2,000 times, and Citation Laureates are drawn from this pool through citation analysis combined with expert review. Bar Veinstein, President, Academia & Government at Clarivate, said the program has become one of the most closely watched data-led indicators of exceptional research influence over more than two decades, noting that many of this year's honored advances began as scientific questions explored decades ago.
Nobel Prize announcements begin October 5
The 2026 Nobel Prize announcements are scheduled to run from October 5 to 12 and will be streamed live. Clarivate's program does not aim to predict Nobel winners in a given year but flags researchers whose work merits global recognition.
