Hong Kong – September 30, 2026 -- City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) climbed three places to rank 70th globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, its best result to date.
CityUHK retains world No. 1 in Industry pillar for fourth straight year
The university scored a perfect 100 in the Industry pillar, topping the global ranking for the fourth consecutive year on the strength of patent development, technology commercialisation and its innovation ecosystem. THE evaluated 2,297 institutions across 118 countries using 17 indicators across five pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
University stays No. 1 in Hong Kong for International Outlook for ninth year
CityUHK has been named THE's "Most International University in the World" for three consecutive years and retained the top Hong Kong position in International Outlook for the ninth straight year. Phil Baty, THE's Chief Global Affairs Officer, said CityUHK has the highest score in the world, jointly, for industry collaboration and technology transfer, calling it "a fantastic signal of being a global magnet for talent and partnerships."
Research Quality pillar surges into global top 50
Scores for Teaching Reputation and Research Reputation rose for a second consecutive year, while the Research Quality pillar moved into the world's top 50 on full marks across multiple indicators. CityUHK also posted score gains across all three core pillars of Teaching, Research Environment and Research Quality.
CityUHK now ranks in the global top 100 across four major league tables
In the QS World University Rankings 2027, CityUHK rose 11 places to 52nd globally, placing it in the top 3% of universities worldwide. The university climbed seven spots to 47th in the U.S. News & World Report 2026–2027 Best Global Universities Rankings, and held 95th place -- 2nd in Hong Kong -- in the ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities 2026 for a second consecutive year.
Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President of CityUHK, said the university has "firmly established itself among the top 100 worldwide in four major global university rankings," citing the community's commitment to innovation and research excellence.
