Caracal Opens Baltimore Plant to Recycle Hospital PPE Waste

Baltimore – – September 29, 2026 -- Caracal Products & Services has opened a 9,000-square-foot recycling hub in Baltimore to process discarded medical plastics for regional health systems, expanding its East Coast network of facilities.

Facility anchors a recycling partnership with Johns Hopkins Health System

The warehouse, located at 2-6 Alco Place, will serve as the operational base for a recycling program Caracal has launched with Johns Hopkins Health System. The site houses industrial balers that compress polypropylene and polyethylene waste from hospitals into bales onsite before shipment to recyclers, where the material is shredded, melted and reformed into plastic pellets for new healthcare-grade products.

Warehouse adds 100 pallet positions to support logistics operations

The facility includes roughly 100 pallet positions and racking for inventory storage, along with office space for administrative functions. A warehouse manager will oversee daily operations, supported by staff handling recycling and logistics tasks.

Baltimore site joins existing hubs in New York and Charlotte

The Baltimore location adds to Caracal's existing recycling and distribution facilities in New York and Charlotte, North Carolina. The company said it plans further East Coast expansion as hospital systems push to divert disposable plastics -- including bags, shrink wrap and cardboard -- from landfills, with some health systems setting targets to recycle 100% of such materials.

Paul Sessions, VP and General Manager of Recycling at Caracal, said the company aims to turn hospital sustainability commitments into measurable results by capturing materials that would otherwise be discarded.
