Raleigh – – October 14, 2026 -- CAPTRUST Financial Advisors has added the Hoge-Barrett Group, a 13-person wealth management team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, that serves individuals and families representing more than $3 billion in client assets.
Hoge-Barrett Group becomes CAPTRUST's seventh North Carolina location
The team, led by advisor Brett Hoge, traces its roots to 1999. It built its practice around long-term client relationships and comprehensive advice for households with increasingly complex financial needs.
The new office raises CAPTRUST's North Carolina footprint to seven locations. The firm has more than 580 employees in the state, including 111 advisors.
Hoge cites technology, research and planning depth as reasons for the move
Hoge said the team chose CAPTRUST for greater flexibility in how it serves clients. He also pointed to a more in-depth technology stack, deeper investment research and expanded wealth planning capabilities. These tools are meant to help the team address the demands of significant, multigenerational wealth.
CAPTRUST pitches scale and independence as a combined offer
Scott Matheson, managing director and head of client solutions at CAPTRUST, said elite advisory teams continue to move toward independent registered investment advisors (RIAs) because they want more control over how they serve sophisticated clients. In his words, such teams "don't want to sacrifice scale or resources to gain independence."
Matheson said CAPTRUST's unified practice model lets advisors keep their client relationships, culture and local identity. They also gain access to the firm's national platform, specialized capabilities and investment in innovation.
