Canaan's Bitcoin Miners Now Heat 2,800 Nordic Homes at 8 MW Scale

Singapore – September 24, 2026 -- Canaan Inc. (NASDAQ: CAN) confirmed that an 8 MW Bitcoin mining installation using its Avalon A1566HA hydro-cooled units is now fully online and delivering recovered heat to approximately 2,800 homes through a Nordic district heating network. The company will present the project alongside its residential heating-miner lineup at the BTCHEL conference in Helsinki, Finland, on September 25-26, at booth #6.

Nordic heating provider replaces conventional systems with Bitcoin-mining heat source

A leading Nordic district heating provider selected the Avalon A1566HA platform after a competitive evaluation, replacing its existing conventional heating infrastructure. The hydro-cooled units generate hot water at approximately 80°C that feeds directly into the district network, converting computing byproduct heat into a utility-grade energy supply. As of September 2026, the 8 MW deployment has reached full operational capacity, serving roughly 2,800 households.

Canaan extends hash-to-heat model from municipal grids to individual living rooms

Beyond utility-scale installations, Canaan is positioning its Avalon Home Miner series as a consumer entry point into heat-generating computing. The Avalon Nano 3S targets hobbyists with 6 TH/s of hashrate at a maximum 140 watts, operating at 30-40 dB as a desktop device that doubles as a gentle heater.

The Avalon Mini 3, styled as a baseboard heater, delivers 37.5 TH/s alongside 800 watts of heating output at 33 dB, with dedicated Heater, Mining, and Night modes for residential use. The AvalonQ unit offers 90 TH/s of rated hashrate with three adaptive power modes, 45 dB operation, and app-based control through the Avalon Family platform.

Canaan's exhibit at BTCHEL will show attendees, media, and industry partners how the same hash-to-heat principle scales from a single household appliance to an 8 MW district-level system supplying thousands of homes.
