San Jose – October 12, 2026 -- Cablenet Communication Systems plc, the second largest fixed network operator in Cyprus, is modernizing its DOCSIS broadband access network with Harmonic's cOS virtualized broadband platform, Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) announced. The deployment is designed to strengthen gigabit service capability, simplify operations and lower operating expenses.
Distributed access architecture with Oyster nodes underpins higher speed tiers
Cablenet is deploying cOS in a distributed access architecture (DAA) with low-power Oyster nodes. The operator can introduce significantly higher speeds across its footprint and scale services as subscriber demand grows. The software-based platform also preserves flexibility for Cablenet's longer-term multi-technology network strategy.
Panayiotis Kouloumbrides, Chief Core Networks Officer at Cablenet, said the platform strengthens the operator's DOCSIS 3.1+ footprint and provides a clear path to higher speeds.
Cablenet moves network functions off legacy hardware to cut OPEX
The cOS platform supports Cablenet's cost-optimization initiative, including data center consolidation and simpler hub-site infrastructure. Moving network functions from legacy hardware to software lets the operator reduce space, power and wiring requirements while streamlining operations.
Harmonic Central adds AI-driven network intelligence
With the transition, Cablenet gains access to Harmonic's Central AI-driven network intelligence. Harmonic says it delivers greater network visibility, more efficient monitoring, faster troubleshooting and improved service assurance.
Stefan Meier, Vice President of Sales, Europe, at Harmonic, described the platform as a foundation for Cablenet to modernize its network and improve subscriber quality of experience (QoE).
Harmonic cites Dell'Oro share leadership and 48 million CPE devices
Harmonic is the market share leader in cable broadband equipment, virtual CMTS and DAA, according to Dell'Oro Group. Its cOS platform powers broadband services through more than 48 million CPE devices worldwide for operators in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Cablenet operates an island-wide HFC/DOCSIS and FTTH network and is a subsidiary of GO plc, which is listed on the Malta Stock Exchange. Harmonic will showcase its broadband technology at Network X, Oct. 13-15, in booth L71.
