Farnborough – October 12, 2026 -- AerCap Holdings N.V. (NYSE: AER) placed a direct order for 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, taking its fleet of 787 aircraft to approximately 140. The lessor announced the order at the 2026 Farnborough International Air Show.
AerCap schedules deliveries of the 15 aircraft through 2033
The aircraft will be delivered through 2033, giving the lessor a long-dated widebody pipeline. AerCap selected GE Aerospace's GEnx-1B engines to power all 15 jets.
Order includes substitution rights to the larger 787-10
The agreement lets AerCap switch from the 787-9 to the larger 787-10 variant. The company said the option gives it flexibility as it works to meet the changing needs of its customers.
AerCap CEO Kelly cites demand for fuel-efficient widebodies
AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly said the order strengthens the company's position as the world's largest owner of 787 aircraft. He pointed to growing demand for modern, fuel-efficient widebody aircraft and said the 787 has shown strong operating economics across a wide range of route networks.
The order gives AerCap's customers greater access to the 787 family, powered by the GEnx platform, Kelly said.
Boeing links order to airline long-haul route expansion
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said AerCap's continued investment underscores the 787's role in enabling long-haul connectivity and superior economics for airlines. Boeing expects to support AerCap and its customers as they open and sustain new long-haul routes.
