Atlanta – October 19, 2026 -- The Weather Company has made Weather Story Assist generally available on its Max Cloud platform, giving station groups an AI co-pilot that builds localized weather stories from a single forecast without adding headcount.
The tool targets linear television, streaming, web, social and mobile output. Local meteorologists keep full editorial authority over every story, graphic and script, and nothing is published or aired without a meteorologist's explicit approval.
Weather Story Assist automates story research and asset search inside Max Cloud
The product ships with two functions. The first, "Grounding the Story in Minutes," surfaces historical content, record data and story angles behind a forecast. Each item is traced to its source, so meteorologists can build narratives without starting from scratch.
The second, Intelligent Asset Search and Suggest, searches a station group's secure Max Cloud library. It recommends scenes, graphics, archived video and local angles in the station's own brand and editorial voice.
The Weather Company says weather teams often spend significant portions of their shifts searching for graphics, organizing assets and formatting content across disparate tools. That leaves less time for localized storytelling and for the short-form vertical content digital audiences expect.
Steve Ward, senior vice president and general manager of enterprise media, said the tool is meant to remove manual search and prep work so station groups can expand their digital presence while local experts stay in control.
Three more features are planned for Max Cloud, without release dates
The company lists three upcoming enhancements, none with a stated release date:
- Three-tiered personalization: aligns each story with group brand and editorial guidelines, station-specific market preferences and individual meteorologists' presentation styles.
- Cross-market content sharing: lets groups search, surface and adapt graphics and video across sister stations, increasing the return on assets already created.
- Automated vertical and platform adaptation: reshapes a broadcast story into short-form vertical video and digital post drafts for meteorologist review across social, web, mobile and streaming.
Private environment keeps station data from training external models
Weather Story Assist runs entirely within a station group's private Max Cloud environment. It learns exclusively from that group's proprietary content, brand guidelines and usage patterns. The company states there is no data sharing or training across external platforms or customers.
