Vertiv Deploys Three-Rack Liquid-Cooled AI Setup at Naval Postgraduate School

Columbus, Ohio – October 12, 2026 -- Vertiv has deployed a three-rack SmartIT integrated AI infrastructure configuration at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) to support the school's new NVIDIA DGX GB300 system, converting an existing facility into a high-density, liquid-cooled environment.

NVIDIA supplied the DGX GB300 system. Vertiv provided and deployed the supporting physical infrastructure, engineering expertise and installation services needed to bring the environment online. The project covers education, research, digital engineering, modeling and simulation.

Vertiv bundles power, cooling and commissioning into one three-rack configuration

The SmartIT configuration integrates power protection and distribution, AI infrastructure racks, liquid-cooling technologies, and fluid management and monitoring. It also includes facility and system interfaces, installation sequencing, and testing and commissioning support. Vertiv worked with NVIDIA, NPS, the NPS Foundation and a wider partner ecosystem on design and delivery.

Existing facility is modernized without a purpose-built environment

The NPS project shows how an existing facility can support advanced AI capability without waiting for an entirely new purpose-built site, according to Vertiv. High-density AI systems need substantially more power and cooling capacity than traditional IT environments. Deployments can involve power distribution upgrades, liquid-cooling integration, facility modifications, fluid management and specialized commissioning.

Vertiv argues that designing these elements as one coordinated system reduces integration risk and improves operational readiness. It says the approach can shorten time to productive AI capacity for enterprise, government, research and institutional customers.

SmartIT can scale from standalone systems to converged whitespace via SmartRun

The SmartIT pre-integrated rack-level portfolio covers configurations from standalone enterprise systems to fully integrated whitespace solutions. For larger environments, SmartIT can be combined with Vertiv SmartRun, extending the same pre-engineered architecture across rack infrastructure, power, cooling, controls and services as one deployable system. Vertiv positions this as a repeatable path from an initial deployment to broader capacity expansion in both existing facilities and new builds.

"Advanced AI systems are redefining the physical requirements of the data center," said Vertiv CEO Gio Albertazzi, who added that coordinating compute with power, cooling and installation lets organizations deploy faster.

Charlie Boyle, vice president of DGX systems at NVIDIA, said the companies are bringing the DGX GB300 online at NPS to give researchers and faculty the infrastructure to advance AI research, digital engineering and education.
