Fairfax, Va. – October 07, 2026 -- The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a pilot program letting Veterans verify their identity on VA.gov through CLEAR, the secure identity company, at no cost and entirely by choice.
GovCIO led the technical integration of CLEAR1 into VA.gov's sign-in system
GovCIO, prime contractor for VA.gov modernization, partnered with CLEAR to embed CLEAR1, CLEAR's identity platform, alongside existing sign-in methods. The integration meets the same security standards VA.gov already requires, without replacing current login options.
Six VA medical centers offer in-person CLEAR enrollment for Veterans without smartphones
Veterans who lack smartphone access or face connectivity issues can enroll with CLEAR Ambassadors at CLEAR Pods in Washington, D.C.; Palo Alto, Calif.; Atlanta, Ga.; Orlando, Fla.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Enrollment elsewhere can be completed online in a one-time setup.
CLEAR identity also unlocks sign-in at Medicare.gov and other health systems
The same CLEAR account Veterans create for VA.gov works across Medicare.gov and partner health organizations, reducing the number of separate logins Veterans must manage for care. CLEAR1 holds Full Service certification from the Kantara Initiative for NIST IAL2/AAL2 under its standard remote, self-service enrollment flow.
VA says personal health information stays with the agency, not CLEAR
CLEAR does not receive or access Veterans' personal health information through the identity verification process; that data remains with VA. Declining to enroll in CLEAR does not affect a Veteran's ability to access VA benefits or services.

CLEAR separates its free VA.gov identity service from its paid CLEAR+ airport membership
The CLEAR account for VA.gov carries no fee, distinct from CLEAR+ airport-security lanes, which require a separate paid membership; CLEAR offers a discounted CLEAR+ rate for military members and government employees.
