Marburg – October 30, 2026 -- More than 180 participants attended the first Menopause Day at University Hospital Marburg (UKGM), which put menopause on the agenda of workplace health management under the motto "Menopause at Work - Inform, Connect, Support."
Women's Health Center runs hybrid format with two lecture blocks
The Women's Health Center at UKGM Marburg organized the event. Attendees could join on site or online. Individual medical consultations followed the lectures, so participants could raise personal health questions confidentially.
PD Dr. Gamal-André Banat opened the day on behalf of the UKGM management. He described the topic as important for employee health and well-being and praised the initiative as modern, employee-focused health promotion.
Prof. Volker Ziller outlines hormonal changes and treatment options
Prof. Dr. Volker Ziller covered hormonal changes in peri- and postmenopause, typical symptoms and current treatments. Hormone replacement therapy was presented alongside non-hormonal options and individual coping strategies.
A central theme was the effect on working life. Sleep disorders, hot flashes, exhaustion and concentration problems can significantly impair quality of life and workplace well-being. Information, understanding and suitable working conditions were presented as levers to support affected employees.
Ziller, who heads the Gynecological Endocrinology, Reproductive Medicine and Osteology unit at UKGM Marburg, said the turnout shows menopause symptoms affect a considerable share of the hospital's female staff during an important phase of their careers.
UKGM plans menopause cafés, training and an anonymous staff survey
The organizers describe the event as the start of a lasting program rather than a one-off. Planned measures include further information and training offerings, low-threshold exchange formats such as "menopause cafés," and steps to improve working conditions for affected employees.
An anonymous survey of female employees is also planned to capture specific needs. UKGM intends to use the results to develop tailored support and to anchor the topic permanently in its workplace health promotion.
