Nashville – October 29, 2026 -- TransCore has launched open-road all-electronic tolling (AET) at the New Hope-Lambertville Toll Bridge (U.S. Route 202), the first of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission's (DRJTBC) seven legacy toll bridges to complete the conversion.
Toll plaza infrastructure is eliminated at the crossing
The system replaces cashless tolling run through existing toll plaza infrastructure with full open-road AET. Motorists now pass through the crossing without stopping. TransCore says this improves roadway safety and cuts long-term maintenance requirements.
VCATS AI classification anchors the technology deployment
TransCore installed its Infinity Digital Lane System, including VCATS, its AI-powered vehicle classification solution. Additional tolling technologies support accurate transaction processing and future growth. The deployment gives DRJTBC a scalable framework for migrating its remaining six toll facilities.
DRJTBC Executive Director Joseph Resta called the launch "an important milestone in our long-term modernization efforts."
The bridge carries 10,000 vehicles a day at nearly 94% E-ZPass use
Slightly more than 10,000 vehicles cross the four-lane bridge each day. Its transponder use rate of nearly 94% E-ZPass is the highest in the DRJTBC system. The bridge links Delaware Township, Hunterdon County, N.J., with Solebury Township, Bucks County, Pa., one mile north of the commercial centers of New Hope, Pa., and Lambertville, N.J.
TransCore extends its DRJTBC role after the 2025 cashless transition
The project builds on TransCore's earlier support for DRJTBC's move to cashless tolling in 2025 and on the commission's ongoing tolling infrastructure modernization program. TransCore President and CEO Whitt Hall said the project was delivered in close collaboration with DRJTBC and project partners.
DRJTBC owns and operates eight toll bridges on the fresh-water portion of the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Seven of them were formerly cash-collection tolling points. The commission also operates 12 non-toll bridges between the two states.
