Bönen – September 10, 2026 -- Tengelmann Energie Renewables (TER) has nearly doubled the photovoltaic capacity at KiK's European headquarters in Bönen with a second solar installation delivering 89.2 kWp, financed and operated under an on-site power purchase agreement (PPA).
Second PV plant adds 89.2 kWp of capacity on KiK's office building
The new installation comprises roughly 200 solar modules mounted on Office Building 2 at KiK's headquarters. More than 70% of the electricity generated flows directly into the retailer's own consumption for logistics and administrative operations under a long-term supply agreement.
TER retains ownership while KiK consumes the power on-site
Under the on-site PPA model, TER finances, builds and operates the plant while KiK uses the electricity without making a capital investment in the infrastructure itself. The arrangement lets the textile and non-food discounter cut grid fees and other surcharges tied to conventional power procurement.
KiK's energy management team said the partnership allows the company to significantly reduce CO2 emissions at the Bönen site and reduce exposure to volatility in energy markets.
First plant, installed in late 2024, already covers 95% of its output internally
TER commissioned an initial PV system at the same site in late 2024 with a capacity of nearly 100 kWp, of which 95% is self-consumed by KiK. The second installation was ordered in May 2026 following positive results from the first project.
TER completed planning-to-commissioning in three months
TER moved from planning to operational commissioning of the second plant within three months. The company is now evaluating additional rooftop space at the Bönen site to identify further photovoltaic potential for future expansion.
