Teleste Modernizes Helsinki Central Station With Advanced RGB LED Passenger Information Display

SHERIDAN, WYOMING - November 13, 2025 - Teleste has completed a major upgrade to the main outdoor passenger information display at Helsinki Central Railway Station, bringing next-generation RGB LED technology to Finland's busiest transportation hub. The deployment enhances real-time communication for up to 300,000 daily travelers and strengthens Teleste's long-standing partnership with national traffic management authority Fintraffic.

Modernizing a Core Node in Finland's Transport Infrastructure
The upgraded display replaces an older installation and brings significantly improved visibility, brightness, and operational durability suitable for harsh outdoor environments. With the station serving as the country's most critical interchange, maintaining continuous access to accurate information is essential for day-to-day rail operations across Helsinki and the wider region. Teleste's work builds on nearly three decades of cooperation, during which more than 3,000 information displays have been deployed across Finland's rail network.

Enhanced Workflow Through Integrated Passenger Information Systems
The new RGB LED display is fully integrated with Fintraffic's centralized passenger information environment, managed through the Teleste Hub software platform. This integration simplifies operational workflows, accelerates timetable updates, and reduces the manual overhead required for managing multiple data streams. Improved clarity and real-time communication also support smoother passenger movement and more predictable travel outcomes.

Digitalisation Trends Accelerating in European Transport Networks
European rail operators are increasingly investing in LED-based passenger information and network-wide digital upgrades to strengthen the reliability of public transport systems. These investments support long-term goals related to intermodal mobility, operational resilience, and improved traveler experience. Helsinki's modernization aligns with broader EU transport digitalisation strategies and reflects how next-generation information systems are becoming core components of supply chain and mobility infrastructure.

Strengthening Trust Through Long-Term Collaboration
"Easy access to passenger information is an essential part of everyday life at Helsinki Central Station. For many, the main display on the platform area is the first point of contact when navigating the station, bringing information clearly and distinctly within reach of all passengers. This upgrade continues our successful, long-term partnership with Teleste and ensures the availability of up-to-date, reliable information well into the future," said Tuomas Lehteinen, Director of Services at Fintraffic.

Claudio Borrello, Business Director of Teleste's Display Solutions, added: "The main display at Helsinki Central Railway Station is not only a key element of a functional passenger information system, but also a highly visible landmark for millions of travelers each year. We are proud that Fintraffic has once again chosen Teleste to deliver this upgrade. Our latest RGB LED technology, combined with the Teleste Hub software, ensures that real-time passenger information is always available - serving passengers reliably and effectively in such a prominent location."

Strategic Implications for Rail Operators and Integrators
The project offers clear takeaways for operators and systems integrators evaluating modernization strategies for transport hubs:

  • Reduced lifecycle cost through durable LED components and streamlined maintenance
  • Improved operational readiness with weather-resistant hardware designed for high-traffic conditions
  • Scalable digital integration enabling network-wide orchestration and future expansion
  • Enhanced passenger experience through clear visual communication and real-time accuracy

For rail infrastructure managers, the Helsinki upgrade highlights how coordinated hardware-software modernization can directly support mobility flow, punctuality, and service reliability.
