New York – October 07, 2026 -- Synera Funds has launched the Synera Funds Takumi+ ETF (Ticker: SMTJ) on NYSE Arca, an actively-managed vehicle combining fundamental Japanese equity selection with a systematic futures overlay.
Three firms combine expertise to build a hybrid Japan-equity ETF
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Americas, Inc. serves as Model Sub-Adviser, contributing SuMi TRUST's fundamental Japanese equity research. Millburn Ridgefield LLC acts as Investment Adviser, overseeing the full portfolio and managing a systematic futures overlay built on more than 55 years of managed futures experience. Twin Oak ETF Company organized the fund and handles operations and distribution.
Fee waivers cut net expense ratio to 0.86% through 2027
SMTJ carries a gross expense ratio of 2.01%, reduced to a net expense ratio of 0.86% after the adviser's contractual fee waivers and expense payments, which run until at least December 31, 2027. The fund is a series of The RBB Fund Trust, an SEC-registered investment company structured as a regulated investment company, and is distributed by Quasar Distributors, LLC.
Strategy targets Japan's governance and capital-efficiency shift
Synera Funds points to rising corporate focus on Return on Equity, balance-sheet optimization and shareholder returns in Japan, alongside normalizing inflation and wage growth supporting domestic demand. The firm cites Japan's position in automation, technology and advanced manufacturing, combined with relative valuation attractiveness, as the basis for the strategy's equity selection layer.
Partners bring scale: $14 billion, $757 billion and $1.1 billion in assets
Millburn Ridgefield manages more than $14 billion in assets as of October 1, 2026. Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Co., Ltd., the Japan-based parent of SuMi TRUST Americas, manages $757 billion in assets as of August 31, 2026. Twin Oak ETF Company manages $1.1 billion as of September 30, 2026.
Barry Goodman, co-CEO and Executive Director of Trading at Millburn Ridgefield, said the firm's systematic managed futures approach is designed to complement the Japanese equity strategy by offering risk mitigation and the potential to perform when equity strategies face periodic pressure. Yusuke Karube, President and CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Americas, said the partnership extends SuMi TRUST's Japanese equity expertise to a broader base of U.S. investors through the ETF structure.
