Gothenburg – October 21, 2026 -- The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) now runs more than 15 Surgical Science simulators across its training center and annual meeting, as the two organizations mark 10 years of partnership.
The anniversary will be celebrated at the CHEST 2026 Annual Meeting in Phoenix and year-round at the CHEST Simulation and Training Facility in Glenview, Illinois. CHEST serves more than 18,000 members worldwide in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
Co-developed BRONCH Express brings portable bronchoscopy training
The partners co-developed the BRONCH Express, a portable table-top simulator built for hands-on bronchoscopy skills and procedures. It extends training beyond the fixed installations at the Glenview center and the annual event.
Two simulation curricula now track clinician competency
The CHEST Standardized Simulated Bronchoscopy Curriculum develops and tracks essential bronchoscopic skills and diagnostic bronchoscopy. The CHEST Simulated Curriculum for Critical Care TEE covers transesophageal echocardiographic skills and awards a CHEST Certificate of Completion based on performance.
Surgical Science CEO Tom Englund said the partnership has changed the education of thousands of clinicians before they perform procedures on human patients, and he called it a strong model for expanding access to competency-based training.
CHEST plans EBUS curriculum with CME credit for self-directed simulation
The next planned launch is the CHEST EBUS Curriculum, which will award CME points for self-directed simulation performance. Richard Schuch, CHEST Chief Learning Officer and Senior Vice President, Education, said the expanded work with Surgical Science will widen the breadth of CHEST courses.
