Stablecoin Transfers Under $100 Make Up 77% of BNB Chain Activity

London – October 19, 2026 -- Transfers under $100 made up 77.4% of stablecoin transfers on BNB Chain in Q3 2026, while transfers of $10,000 or more carried 66.2% of total transfer value, according to a joint report from payments platform Mercuryo and BNB Chain.

The report, Stablecoins on BNB Chain: Fiat to Crypto and Back, combines Mercuryo's fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat transaction data with BNB Chain's on-chain data for the quarter. The median network fee for a stablecoin transfer on BNB Chain was $0.0068. Additional fees for purchasing, selling or converting into stablecoins may apply.

Non-US currencies fund 70% of dollar-stablecoin purchases through Mercuryo

Of the value used to buy dollar-denominated stablecoins on BNB Chain through Mercuryo, 70% was paid in non-US dollar currencies. The US accounted for 9.8% of purchase value. Asia was the largest regional market at 39.3%, followed by Europe at 33.4%.

Apple Pay and Google Pay account for 69.5% of Mercuryo stablecoin purchases

Apple Pay and Google Pay together made up 69.5% of stablecoin purchases and 57.7% of purchase value through Mercuryo. Their combined share of purchases rose from 42.3% in Q3 2025. Among purchases with a recorded device, 87.2% were made on a phone.

The report cites Worldpay's Global Payments Report 2026, which found digital wallets accounted for 56% of global e-commerce value in 2025.

Self-custody wallets lead at purchase, holding and off-ramp stages

Self-custody wallet channels received 59.5% of stablecoin purchase value through Mercuryo. Across BNB Chain, individual addresses held 63.3% of stablecoin value. Self-custody wallet channels were the origin of 59.8% of off-ramp value processed through Mercuryo. The report notes that the datasets use different measures of wallet activity.

64.3% of BNB Chain stablecoin value moved within 30 days

Nearly two-thirds of stablecoin value on BNB Chain had moved in the previous 30 days. The report links that circulation to trading, decentralised finance (DeFi) and wider on-chain activity, alongside payments.

Arthur Firstov, Chief Business Officer at Mercuryo, said stablecoins "were designed as a place to hold value between trades" for those taking Bitcoin positions. He added that the tokens now serve a range of other purposes as blockchain efficiencies and lower costs spread.

The report carries a risk warning: stablecoins can lose value, carry issuer and redemption risks, and are exposed to risks tied to the underlying blockchain. They are not equivalent to bank deposits or cash and are not covered by deposit protection schemes.
