SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 21, 2025 – Sidel’s Beijing Plant has successfully completed the full grid connection of its rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system, a major milestone in the company’s global decarbonisation strategy. With thousands of panels now installed, the initiative underscores Sidel’s ongoing commitment to sustainable manufacturing and sets a new benchmark for green transformation in the industrial sector.
Driving Low-Carbon Operations with High-Efficiency Solar Power
The solar installation, boasting an installed capacity of 2.1 megawatts, is projected to generate approximately 4.39 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This output is expected to cover 60% of the plant’s operational energy needs, contributing to a reduction of 2,452 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
Utilising a ‘self-consumption with surplus feed-in’ model, the plant will consume the majority of the solar-generated energy on-site while feeding around 35% of the surplus power back into the municipal grid. This approach maximises energy efficiency and supports broader municipal energy needs, positioning the Beijing Plant as a key contributor to sustainable urban energy solutions.
The system features LONGi Hi-MO7 high-efficiency modules, delivering 615W per panel with a leading conversion efficiency of 23.1%, further enhancing the environmental and operational impact of the installation.
Building a Model Green Factory Through Integrated Solutions
Since opening in 2008, Sidel’s Beijing Plant has consistently prioritised sustainability as part of its core strategy. The site’s multi-pronged approach to environmental stewardship was recognised in 2025 with several certifications, including:
- ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System
- ISO 14064-1:2018 Zero Carbon Factory
- GB/T 39257-2020 / GB/T 33635-2017 5-Star Green Supply Chain Management
Beyond solar power, the plant’s initiatives include:
- Implementation of an intelligent Energy Management System (EMS) and Building Automation System (BAS) for precise energy control
- Equipment retrofits with frequency conversion technology to lower energy consumption
- Adoption of low-temperature distillation to reduce effluent from acid-wash passivation processes
- Continuous optimisation of water recycling, saving hundreds of tonnes annually
- LED lighting upgrades that enhance energy efficiency and workplace comfort
- On-site electric vehicle charging stations promoting eco-friendly commuting
A Global Commitment Reflected in Local Action
Sidel’s sustainability drive extends across its global operations. With all plants operating on 100% renewable energy since 2022, the Group has achieved a 64% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions as of 2024, moving steadily toward its target of a 73% reduction from 2019 levels.
“Building a beautiful Earth requires concrete corporate action. This PV system not only slashes our operational carbon footprint but demonstrates Sidel’s unwavering commitment to green manufacturing. We will continue exploring innovative technologies to advance sustainable industry development,” stated Li Yonghon, Director, Sidel Beijing Plant.
Looking ahead, Sidel plans to explore advanced energy storage solutions and smart energy management technologies to transform the Beijing site into a fully integrated urban green energy hub.
