SciBase wins first US payer coverage for Nevisense via Highmark

Stockholm – October 14, 2026 -- SciBase Holding AB (STO: SCIB) has received its first positive medical policy for Nevisense from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, which serves more than 7 million members across multiple US states. The decision moves eligible use of the skin-lesion device from a predominantly cash-pay model into covered care through a major private insurer.

Highmark policy applies to all commercial lines and opt-in self-funded groups

Highmark considers electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) medically necessary when a dermatologist is evaluating a clinically atypical suspicious pigmented lesion and is considering a biopsy. The procedure is reported under CPT code 0658T. The policy covers all Highmark commercial insured lines of business and self-funded (ASO) employer groups that elect it.

Coverage is limited to defined cases:

  • Melanoma is part of the differential diagnosis.
  • The lesion is on the trunk or extremities and measures 2 mm to 20 mm.
  • The patient is 18 or older.
  • The lesion is not on a mucosal surface, palm, sole or nail, and is not ulcerated, bleeding or recently traumatized.
  • The device is FDA-approved and is used by a dermatologist trained in clinical and dermoscopic evaluation of pigmented lesions.

Highmark cites the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines for Cutaneous Melanoma (Version 2.2026), which list EIS among technologies that may aid detection of new primary melanoma. It also cites American Academy of Dermatology guidance on emerging noninvasive diagnostics.

US market holds about 6,000 relevant dermatology clinics and up to 4.5 million annual biopsies

The United States is SciBase's largest commercial opportunity. Roughly 6,500 to 7,000 private dermatology clinics operate there, and about 6,000 are considered relevant for Nevisense. An estimated 4 to 4.5 million skin biopsies are performed each year.

SciBase says it built U.S. commercial momentum without broad private payer reimbursement. Highmark coverage adds a growth driver to that existing business by widening the number of practices and patients that can use Nevisense within a reimbursed model.

CEO Pia Renaudin called the decision "a defining milestone" for the company's U.S. business. She said reimbursement now becomes an additional growth driver in a market where demand for the technology is already established.

SciBase plans wider payer outreach while expanding in reimbursed geographies

For dermatologists, coverage lowers the financial barrier to using Nevisense on eligible patients. SciBase will continue engaging the broader U.S. payer market and will expand commercial activity in geographies where reimbursement is available. The company disclosed the policy under the EU Market Abuse Regulation at 09:00 AM CEST on October 14, 2026.
